Junior Cs are city champions...Seniors go out to St Nicholas
Action from the Junior C final
Aug 15th Junior City Championship Final
Town 1-13 Gurranabraher 0-3

The Junior Cs wrote themselves a place in the history books on Sunday last with a comprehensive victory over Gurranabraher in the city final. Displaying great team spirit and admirable discipline the Town side were not in danger of losing this one at any stage. The scores were slow to come in the first half with numerous stoppages in play spoiling the spectacle and upsetting any momentum generated. Scoring commenced with a fine point by the chairman in the second minute with the same player having been cruelly denied a goal with a ground shot to the left corner. Evan Ryan followed with a fine point and there were three more from the reliable Tony O'Donovan. The opposition meanwhile managed one point in that first half leaving the scoreline at Town 0-5 Gurran 0-1. Continued pressure from Town in the second half led to points from Martin Gately(33rd min), Tony O'Donovan(34th min), Niall Feehely(44th min), Martin Gately(48th min), Tony(50th and 51st min) and Evan Ryan(54th min). Then super sub Niall Feehely, who replaced the chairman, finished to the net in the 56th minute and the final point came from captain Maurice power in the 27th minute. This was a well deserved win after a long season involving great commitment from all of the panel. Well done to Pat Cuthbert and his selectors on a fine season. Oh and the double is still a distinct possibility for this team before the year is out! Team: Kevin Garvey, John McLoughlin, Frank Cogan, Maurice O'Donoghue, Brian Murphy, Brendan Buckley, Mark Driscoll, Brian O'Connell, Maurice Power, Tony O'Donovan, Evan Ryan, Chris Marsh, Kieran Corbett, Martin Gately and Toddy Cuthbert. Substitutes: Niall Feehely for Toddy, Brian Coffey for Tony and Gavin Daly for Chris

Aug 10th Senior football Championship
Town 0-8 St. Nicholas 0-9

This rematch from last year’s championship campaign proved to be the undoing of the Senior footballers on this occasion despite a bright start and a late rally which left a single point between the sides at the end. For the first 15 minutes the Town forwards were on fire as a result of a dominance at midfield and fast ball being supplied to the inside line of Gavin Walsh, Jack Ferriter and Brian Healy. Gavin kicked over 2 points from play in the 2nd and 5th minutes and three pointed frees by Billy Harty in the 3rd, 6th and 14th minutes left the score at Town up by 5 points to 2. However, the dominance at mid-field faded from then on and the supply of quick ball to the forwards was drastically reduced with St.Nicholas coming more and more into the game. Town also had a number of wides in the second quarter along with two 45s which went wide earlier in the half. St.Nicholas scored 2 more points and were unlucky with a couple of goal attempts before the break to leave the half-time score at Bishopstown 0-5 St. Nicholas 0-4. Things looked good on the resumption when Jack Ferriter kicked a nice point from play and indeed there followed a period of dominance for the first quarter of that second half that turned out to be decisive. Despite having the vast majority of possession, the Town attack misssed 2 great goal opportunities and 4 or 5 point chances in quick succession. As it turned out, Town were not to score again until the 26th and 29th minutes with points by Brian Healy and Jack Ferriter. In the meantime St.Nicholas took over once more and scored 5 points without reply until that Town 26th minute point. The late rally by Town reduced the margin to one point but time ran out and the championship run had come to an end. The team were bitterly disappointed to lose a game that they could have won had they taken their chances but breat credit is due to all involved for the commitment and work rate throughout the season so far. They are currently top of their section in the senior league competition and in line for promotion so there is still a lot to play for. The backroom team of Mick Hannon, Seamus O’Sullivan, Brand Murphy and Declan O’Neill are to be commended for their management of the players throughout the campaign and considering that there were a number of absences from last year’s team due to injuries and players travelling abroad, the season as a whole has been a successful one. We wish a number of these players the best of luck when they line out for Town on August 17th in the Senior hurling championship against CIT in Páirc Uí Rinn. Best wishes also to Jamie O’Sullivan who is a member of the Cork football team which faces Dublin the All-Ireland semi-final in Croke Park next Sunday. Team: Ken O’Halloran, Eoin Byrne, Noel O’Donovan, Kevin Long, Jamie O’Sullivan, Michael Power, David Hickey, Alan O’Connor, Chris O’Neill, Billy Harty, Jack O’Shea, Denis Crowley, Gavin Walsh, Jack Ferriter and Brian Healy. Substitutes: Ian Jones for Kevin Long, Stephen Kenny for David Hickey, Eoin Deasy for Ian Jones, Jas Murphy for Jack O’Shea and Pa Cronin for Billy Harty
Junior C action from semi-final V Nemo

Junior C Semi-final July 24th
Town 0-14 Nemo Rangers 1-8

The Junior C side made it to the championship final with a great away win against Nemo played in warm conditions on Saturday last July 24th. Nemo were first to score with a point in the 2nd minute but once the Town settled down they ran up 6 points before Nemo scored again in the 15th minute. The points came from Martin Gately(3 mins), Tony O'Donovan(4th min free), Mark Driscoll(6th min), Maurice Power(9th min), Kieran Corbett(13th min) and Evan Ryan(14th min). Tony added a further point from play before the break with the scoreline at 0-7 to 0-5. Nemo came back into it somewhat in the second half but some astute substitutions provided the fresh legs when they were needed in the form of Maurice O'Donoghue and Niall Feehely for Dom Buckley and Chris Marsh. Points by Tony O'Donovan in the 1st, 9th and 12th minutes were added to by further points by Niall Feehely, Maurice O'Donoghue and 2 more from play by man of the match Tony O'Donovan. There were fine individual displays also from Kevi Garvey in goal, Frank Cogan at full-back, Kerry Mick in the corner, Brian Murphy and Mark Driscoll at wing-back, Brian O'Connell at mid-field and Evan Ryan, Kieran Corbett, Martin 'The Greek' Gately and Niall Feehely up front. A great team effort and either Ballinure or Gurranagraher will be the final opponents

Action from Senior Football Town V CastletownBere

June 27th Senior League
Town 0-8 Castletown Bere 0-9

This was an unsatisfactory performance overall with Castletown showing better capability to score when it was needed especially when playing against a strong breeze in the second half. The game was fractious in nature and could have got out of hand on numerous occasions due to weak referreeing and indiscipline by players on both sides. Town found the going difficult against the wind and did not adapt to the conditions very well losing the opportunity to take scores. Eoin Deasy did well in defence aided by Kevin Long, Noel O'Donovan, Alan O'Connor, who gave it everything, Colm O'Sullivan and Conor Lutrell. Jamie O'Sullivan, David Hickey, Denis Crowley and Jack Ferriter were other players who performed well but overall the team looked tired and lacked purpose. Missing half of the championship side was no help and hopefully the lads can put it together again for the next round.
Junior News Update

The C side did the business in the replay against Rochestown and await a date for the next match. Meanwhile they have notched up another win in the league against the Barrs and the word is that there is no stopping Marshy despite his loss to Greg as he has since struck gold on the course in the club society captain's prize. This win is long overdue for Marshy and despite the begrudgers his score on the day was the only one that counts even if some think they bettered it. Well done Marshy and to hell with the begrudgers. It's a good omen for the the championship and the lads are definitely worth a skull or two with the bookies! The B side had a great win against Dripsey in the Seandun cup with Tony Gardiner and Eric McCarthy among the goal scorers in the 3-7 to 2-6 win. Denis and Brian and the lads have done a good job with this team and have ensured that these lads are getting games that other wise would not be possible. The A side took on Rathpeacon and were much too strong with the inclusion of a number of the senior panel. The scoreline of 2-16 to 3-5 reflected the dominance of the Town team with Stephen McCarthy, Donal Cullinane, Kevin Long and Eoin Deasy showing well. Good to see Eoin back and he will be a great addition to the footballers this season.
May 19th Junior Cs Prepare for Championship Replay As Concern Mounts Over Marshy

As the Junior Cs face Rochestown in the replay of the championship first round on June 12th at home, throw in 7:15 p.m. concern was expressed by sources close to the team over the prospective performance of a number of players in a such a high profile encounter. The lads did the business during the week against a club under 21 selection in the Marcus O'Riordan memorial match with some fine displays. Senior selectors present are now seriously considering a call up for veteran striker Pat Cuthbert after he netted twice in the game and was cruelly robbed of a glorious hat trick by the cross bar late in the second half. Marshy was another player who caught the eye and he showed a clean pair of heels on a number of occasions when he outsprinted the young bloods to regain possession at vital stages. However there is some concern over his form going into the replay following the news that an upcoming matchplay encounter in Lee Valley may be just too much to bear at this time. A Lee Valley spokesperson was adamant that Marshy is up for the battle and that he will see off his younger opponent with ease. 'His form on the course has been excellent lately and experience and guile will count when it matters'. Greg has other ideas however and, despite the recent text messages, he remains unnerved and confident of victory. The team management are geared up for the game against Rochestown and it is hoped that by then the squad will be fully focussed on the job to be done. Best of luck to Marshy in the matchplay!
May 19th Junior A Championship
Town 0-8 Delaneys 1-12

The Junior As face a back door encounter after tasting defeat to Delaneys at Mayfield having cut the deficit to a single point early in the second half. Delaneys struck for two early points in the 5th and 11th minutes before Brian O'Callaghan opened the Town account on 14 minutes followed by a Mike O'Neill point a minute later. Delaneys began to move well in the forward division and notched five more well taken scores in the 18th, 19th, 22nd, 24th and 25th minutes before substitute Gavin Walsh scored twice in the 28th minute from play and a pointed free in the 29th minute. Delaneys had added another by then to leave the half time score at Town 0-4 Delaneys 0-8. The second half began badly with Delaneys stretching the lead after 1 minute but then four unanswered points by Brian O'Callaghan from a free(3 minutes), Mike O'Neill (5 minutes), Kevin Long (10 minutes) and Brian O'Callaghan(11 minutes). Town were getting on top at this stage with the nargin down to one but Delaneys replied with a point in the 12th minute. Disaster struck on 20 minutes when Delaneys cut through for a goal. Town failed to score again while Delaneys added two more points to complete the scoring. Delaneys deserved the win but at 0-9 to 0-8 the game was there for the taking and the concession of the goal killed off the comeback.Team: Anthony Seymour, Stephen Power, Kevin McCarthy, Eoghan McCarthy, Benny Kirk, Kevin Long, Cillian O'Brien, Ruan O Deasunaigh, Donal Cullinane, Conor Lutrell, Mike O'Neill, Colin Jones, Eoin O'Shea(Gavin Walsh first half), Brian O'Callaghan and Wayne O'Grady
May 15th Senior Championship

Town 1-11 Valley Rvrs 0-9

This first round fixture was a true test of the mettle of the Town players having got to the semi-final stage last season. It was a solid team performance and despite the early loss of Alan O'Connor with an injury the lads stuck to their task and produced the result required after a workmanlike hour's football. The first half was closely contested with Town coming under pressure from mid field with alarming frequency. However the full-back line dealt well with the threat of Fiachra Lynch at full-forward and Ian, Noel and Eoin can be satisfied with a good day's work. Scores in the first half began with a Paul O'Connor free followed by 3 points by Valley Rovers before Town was awarded a penalty following a foot block which prevented a certain goal after a slick, forward line move. The penalty was duly despatched by David Hickey and there were further points by Billy Harty (12 mins) and Stephen Kenny(15 mins). Stephen had a fine championship debut and will surely benefit from the experience. Valleys had some fine scores themselves in the interim, all from play before Paul Honohan was unlucky when his snapshot just blazed wide of the goal on 22 mins. The lads finished well though with 2 more points scored by Paul Honohan on 27 mins and Paul O'Connor from play on the half hour. This left the half-time score at Town 1-5 Valleys 0-7 and it was all to play for. The second half commenced with Valleys scoring a point from a free but they were profligate and wasted numerous scoring chances which went wide due mainly to a swirling breeze. Town forwards however displayed no such wastefulness and there were points by Paul Honohan from a long range free on 10 mins, Brian Healy (who had one of his best games for Town marked by fierce workrate) on 12 mins from play, Billy Harty on 13 mins from play, and finally three wonderful Paul O'Connor points all from play, in the 20th, 25th and 28th minutes, to round off a fine second half display. The backline once again was outstanding in the discipline and close tackling employed. Jamie O'Sullivan was a tour de force throughout the second half when moved to mid-field and his efforts broke any resisitance left in a game Valley Rovers side. Town lost Billy Harty for a second yellow card offence and Eoin Ryan replaced Denis Crowley(who had a fine match) in the 21st minute and he also did well when he came, on working his socks off. Alan Coomey replaced Alan O'Connor in the first half and he did extremely well using his physical presence to good effect. The club would like to wish Alan all the best and bon voyage as he leaves for Australia on Wednesday next. He has served the club well for the last number of years and we thank him sincerely for his efforts. team: Ken O'Halloran, Ian Jones, Noel O'Donovan, Eoin Byrne, Jamie O'Sullivan, Michael Power, David Hickey, Alan O'Connor and Chris O'Neill, Denis Crowley, Stephen Kenny, Brian Healy, Paul O'Connor, Billy Harty and Paul Honohan. Substitutes used: Alan Coomey for Alan O'Connor, Eoin Ryan for Denis Crowley.
April 22nd Senior Football League

Town 0-11 Mallow 0-5

Having dominated the first half and built a lead of 8 to 3 at the break, the second half proved to be somewhat disappointing with Town managing 3 points, missing a penalty and surviving two goal attempts thanks to fine saves by Anthony Seymour. As was the case in Tuesday's game against Kiskeam, there was evidence of fluid, combined football in the first half with well taken points by Paul O'Connor, Jack Ferriter, who was replaced due to injury, and Denis Crowley. The defence coped well with the full-back line of Ian Jones, Noel O'Donovan and Eoin Byrne faultless in the execution of their duties. Kevin Long played at wing-back and had a good first half also with Mike Power getting a lot of ball at centre-back. Chris O'Neill, Denis Crowley and Alan Coomey held their own in mid-field and Brian Healy covered a lot of ground to combine well on numerous occasions. Town were awarded a penalty early in the second half for a foot block by the Mallow keeper but Paul O'Connor's shot was not well placed and saved. Later Anhtony Seymour was to save a Mallow penalty.Following the penalty miss Town were guilty of some bad wides when wrong options were taken and Paul Honohan also missed a few free kick attempts from distance. The introduction of Colin Jones at corner-forward worked wonders and he scored a fine point and created another due to his lively and intelligent play. Conor Luttrell also showed well in defence when he came on and Donal Cullinane played well scoring one of the 3 second half points. The team now has 5 wins out of 5 outings in the league and gearing up for the championship meeting with Valley Rovers on May 16th. Team Anthony Seymour, Ian Jones, Noel O'Donovan, Eoin Byrne, Benny Kirk, Michael Power, Kevin Long, Alan Coomey, Chris O'Neill, Eoin Ryan, Denis Crowley, Paul Honohan, Brian Healy, Paul O'Connor, Jack Ferrriter. Subs:Conor Luttrell, Colin Jones, Donal Cullinane, Wayne O'Grady
April 17th U 21 Football City Semi-final

Town 0-10 Douglas 0-11 AET

Lining out without regular full-back Johnny McLoughlin, the under 21 footballers failed to make it to the final after an epic at Ballinlough. Douglas got off to the better start and led by 2 points to nil until the 18th minute when Brian O'Callaghan opened the Town account with a free. Previous to this Paul Honohan was wide with two frees and Douglas could have been further ahead but for a series of bad wides. Further points from the excellent Stephen Kenny and Kevin Divane put Town ahead. A Paul Honohan free on the stroke of half-time left a single point between the sides at the break. The second half was littered with countless occasions when possession was given away and poor decision making when better options might have produced scores. Despite trojan work by Stephen Kenny and Ian Jones in mid-field, Cian Duggan in goal, Eoghan McCarhthy at corner back, who was outstanding throughout, Killian O'Brien at centre-back, a gallant Mark Driscoll at full-back, and Kevin Devane who tried his best at corner-forward, the lads could only produce three points in that second half - all frees by Brian Coffey(31 mins and 54 mins) and Paul Honohan(57 mins). Douglas only managed 2 points and had a sizeable number of wides with some poor shooting. The game ended at 7 points each and the first period of extra time saw points by Ruan O Deasunaigh after 4 minutes and excellent substitute Roger Ryan on 10 minutes. This was folllowed by a Honohan free as the half ended with Town ahead by 2. Into the last ten minutes of extra time then and it was Douglas who took their chances with 3 unanswered points to win by one. Town had one last chance to level things at the finish but Michael O'Neill's effort was short and time was up. Overall we did not deserve to win and it would not have been nearly as close if Douglas had taken some of the opportunities for scores that they spurned throughout the game.
April 20th Senior Football League

Town 1-14 Kiskeam 0-6
This home fixture turned out to be a one-sided affair when Town turned on the style in the second half having led by 7 points to 3 at the break. Playing some fine flowing football throughout featuring a fine defensive display and some well taken points particularly in the closing quarter. Paul O'Connor produced a second half goal following a slick move and this put day light between the sides. Three more O'Connor points and three beauties by substitute Jack Ferriter capped a fine overall display.
March 23rd SFL

Town 1-9 Na Piarsaigh 1-7

A wet and windy night at Na Piarsaigh resulted in a win for the senior side despite missing a number of regulars. The team proved that there is resilience and depth when required with fine displays by Denis crowley at centre-field, Noel O'Donovan at full-back Eoin Byrne and Ian Jones in the corners, and Benny Kirk and Donal Cullinane on the wings. Jamie O'Sullivan was back to his best at centre-back and Paul Honohan, Paul O'Connor, Billy Harty and Stephen Kenny manned a forward line that came good when it mattered. The scoreline at the break was Town 5 points to 1 -4 for Na Piarsaigh with the Town points coming from Paul O'Connor(3), Stephen Kenny and a fine Harty score on the half hour. A number of switches began to pay dividends and the second half commenced with a well taken goal by Stephen Kenny and points by Billy Harty, Paul O'Connor(2) and Paul Honohan. Team: Ken O'Halloran, Ian Jones, Noel O'Donovan, Eoin Byrne, Donal Cullinane, Jamie O'Sullivan, Benny Kirk, Chris O'Neill, Denis Crowley, Paul Honohan, Billy Harty, Paul O'Connor, Jack Ferriter, Stephen Kenny, Wayne O'Grady. Subs: Brian Healy for Wayne O'Grady, Alan Coomey for Jack Ferriter.
March 16th TCC Plate Final

Town 0-7 Douglas 2-6

This final was played in poor conditions at Cloghduv with Town facing a strong wind and driving rain for the first half. Douglas soon took advantage of the situation and pressed ahead with a flurry of scores leading by 2 - 6 to 0 - 1 at the break. The point was scored by Alan Coomey who was replaced by Denis Crowley on 20 minutes. The mid-field and half forward line just could not get decent possession and the defence had to man a rearguard action in an attempt to keep the score down in that first half. Even though the wind and rain seemed to ease for a period in the second half when we needed both at our backs, the lads staged a strong come back with points by Paul O'Connor(free 31 minutes), Jack Ferriter(play 33 and 37 minutes), Chris O'Neill(play 38 minutes), Jack Ferriter(play, 45 minutes and Billy Harty(play, 47 minutes)> Douglas failed to score in the second half with the defence playing well throughout in paricular, Noel O'Donovan, Eoin Byrne and Ian Jones who followed his fine display for Cork U21s in their defeat to Kerry last weekend. Chris O'Neill shot for goal in the 38th minute and a great save by the Douglas keeper deflected it over for a point when a goal was deserved. The difference on the night was the goals conceded in the first half and a number of missed opportunities in the second period. Team: Anthony Seymour, Ian Jones, Noel O'Donovan, Eoin Byrne, David Hickey, Jamie O'Sullivan, Benny Kirk, Alan O'Connor, Chris O'Neill, Eoin Ryan, Billy Harty, Alan Coomey, Brian Healy, Steven Kenny, Paul O'Connor. Subs used: Denis Crowley, Donal Cullinane, Jack Ferriter, and Paul Honohan
Feb 28th Senior League

Town 0-15 Glenville 2-3

Although missing numerous panel members due to injury and third-level games, the lads pulled away from Glenville in this first league game of the season with some fine long range points contributing to the final tally. The score at the break was Town 0-5 Glenville 1-1 with Town getting off to a flying start and then conceding the goal which brought Glenville back into the game. A strong finish in the second half, including two beauties by Brian Healy from distance, put an end to Glenville's resistance despite another goal conceded in that half. Paul O'Connor produced a sterling display from centre-forward contributing 9 points, 7 from frees and 2 from play. Other scorers included Eoin Ryan(2), Chris O'Neill(1), and David Hickey(1). Next match is against Na Piarsaigh.
Feb 14th Tadhg Crowley Plate

Town 1-9 Ilen Rvrs 1-8

This closely fought fixture featured a fine display by Denis Crowley, a well taken goal by Brian Healy and promising displays by Benny Kirk and Johnny McLoughlin in defence. Donal Cullinane also did some good work in the centre taking a fine second half point and the ever dependent Ian Jones. Eoin Byrne and Noel O'Donovan manned a resolute defence. Next match is against the Barrs at home
Feb 21st Tadhg Crowley Plate Semi-final

Town 1-8 Barrs 0-10

This could have concluded with a wider winning margin as quite a few chances for goal were not taken including a penalty miss in the first half. However the return of Jamie O'Sullivan was welcome and he did well for his first time back following a lay off. A number of players were missing due to third level College commitments and we wish them every sucess this coming week. Eoin Ryan was also out due to a family bereavement and the squad send their sympathies at such a sad time. Anthony Seymour took his place in goal and kept a clean sheet while the defence once again was solid throughout, with Eoin Byrne in particular catching the eye. Chris O'Neill played some fine football at times partnering Alan O'Connor in the middle of the field. Billy Harty gained a lot of possession at centre forward and Gavin Walsh showed well for ball when it was played quickly to him. Paul O'Connor scored the point of the game in the second half from distance while subs Conor Lutrell, Mike O'Neill and Jas Murphy all did well on their inroduction. The final will be against Douglas or St. Nicks who must replay this week.
Feb 21st JBFL V Passage

Town 0-8 Passage 0-6

A blistering display by former keeper Jerome O'Mahony was the stand out feature of this league encounter with a tally of four points from the full-forward position. This was the second win in succession for these seasoned campaigners and it seems that they have uncovered another gem in their quest for glory this year! Who put that man in goal anyway?
