| Well done to the Under 14's who won the Division 2 Feile Final against Tracton |
| Senior training is on Mondays and Thursdays at 6.30pm. |
Hard luck to the senior team who made a huge effort against Eire Og in the championship and in awful conditions were unlucky to lose out. The first half was a very tight affair and Ciara Healy pointed two awkward frees to leave the half time score at 0-3 to 0-4 in favour of Eire Og. Miriam Crowley added the other point after one of her jinking runs into the Eire Og defense. The wind picked up in the second half in Eire Og’s favour and our backs were under constant pressure. Miriam Crowley continued to relieve the pressure with her surging runs. The excitement reached fever pitch with goals scored at both ends. Ciara Healy stuck two in the net for Bishopstown to bring us to within a point of Eire Og, but they scored two more at the other end. Aine Donegan put over another point for Bishopstown but it was not to be. Eire Og managed to pull away with a final score of Eire Og 4-9 Bishopstown 2-8. Next up are Carrigaline on Monday 19th July. |
On a fine evening in Mahon Bishopstown produced a super performance. With the mid-field pairing of Sinead Kelly and Miriam Crowley completely on top, there was a constant supply of ball into the forwards. Ciara Healy opened the scoring with a pointed free and Maeve Scannell chipped in with four points, three from play. Miriam also got on the scoreboard with a point of her own. Carrigaline threatened at times, but our defense held firm with Aoife Noone, Juli Crowley and Ciara Enright excelling. At half-time the score stood at Bishopstown 0-6 Carrigaline 0-1. Facing into the breeze in the second half the work-rate had to be stepped up. Carrigaline started converting their chances and reduced the lead to three points. Up stepped Ciara Healy and Maeve Scannell again with two points each. Then Carrigaline’s best chance lead to a stunning save by Deirdre Coughlan at full stretch. Ciara Healy pointed again and then stuck another close in free to the back of the net. One final free meant the full time score was Bishopstown 1-12 Carrigaline 0-5. |
With the game fixed for Youghal at 7pm, the start of the game had to be delayed, due to road works and rush hour mayhem. A bad start then followed for Bishopstown, with 3 early goals for Killeagh. The half-time score was 3-7 to 0-3 in favour of Killeagh with Bishopstown struggling all over the field. The second half showed a marked improvement, with Bishopstown much more competitive. Up front there were points by Eileen Foyle, Orla Ní Dhomhnaill, Jo-Anne Browne and Maeve Scannell. Ciara Healy pointed 2 frees to leave the full-time score at 3-13 to 0-8. |

| Bishopstown Feile Winning team! |
| Well done to our Under 14’s who won the Feile Division 2 Final recently with a super win over Tracton. In a highly entertaining match both teams served up a thrilling game with the play switching from end to end. Tracton opened the scoring with a point from play and it took until the 17th minute for Bishopstown to get on the scoreboard. They struck for two goals within a minute, the first from Jessica Kearney and the other from Eirne Ni Dheasmhúnaigh. Keeper Sarah O Sullivan had a great game throughout, with some great catches and clearances, to keep her side in the game. At this stage Bishopstown seemed to be in control but Tracton were not going to let us get clear of them. Tracton managed to get back into the game with a goal on 22 mins, followed by two pointed frees to make the half-time score Bishopstown 2-0 to Tracton’s 1-4. Tracton dominated just after half time and Bishopstown were finding it hard to break through their defence. Laura O Neill landed a free half way through, while Jessica Dempsey scored two for Tracton. Coming into the last ten minutes, Bishopstown were a goal down and they dug their heels in and showed that strength of character which we all know that they possess. Sarah in goal was letting nothing past, Caoimhe (captain), Ellen and Cliodhna in the full back line scuppered many attacks. Niamh Foley at centre back caught high ball after high ball and drove them back to the other end. Megan started those darting runs forward that had been missing earlier in the match and Leanne was letting nothing whatsoever get past her. Niamh Stevens covered so much ground stopping attacks and keeping us going forward. Then up popped Eirne Ni Dheasmhúnaigh with one of her trademark runs from midfield and scored another great goal. Our forward line got a “third” wind with the final whistle approaching: Jessica, Laura, Saoirse, Roisin, Emma, Tracey, Alison rotated around keeping the defence guessing. Emma and Jessica showed us how defence starts in the forward line and were in no mood to let Tracton clear the ball from their lines. In a frantic finale, up pops Jessica again, in the thick of things as usual and netted again from the edge of the square. Bishopstown up a goal now in injury time and Laura O’Neill added the insurance point. At the final whistle Bishopstown were victors claiming their first Feile title in a long time, on a scoreline of 4-2 to 1-6. |
| Winning the Feile is not just about the final, and this year the importance of a strong panel was very important to our success. In the league stage of the Feile we defeated Dungourney, Banteer and Aghabullogue. But with Eirne and Sarah, in goal, not available, others were also not able to stay for all the matches. Aisling Broderick played up front in all 3 games and went close to scoring in all games. Laura O’Sullivan played solidly at corner back for all 3 games. Julie Shanahan, Rachel Coffey, Amy Delea, Chloe Leisk and Una Stevens put in a huge effort in all 3 games up front. Without this strong squad we would not have made the final. Special thanks to Kayleigh who pushed the team forward throughout the league and final. Congratulations to the panel involved as well as the trainers and selectors. |

| Under 12 County Camogie Blitz! |
| Bishopstown took part in the Cork County U12 Camogie Blitz on Sunday 18th in Coachford. The ethos of the day was for the girls to be playing and enjoying camogie during the summer months, to extend their camogie season and enjoyment of the sport. It was an 11 aside tournament and given the holiday period our panel of 14 was made up of girls aged 9 to 12. The weather did its best to dampen the spirits, but all teams ignored it and got on with the fun of playing camogie. Bishopstown were in a group with Blackrock, Cobh, Carrigtwohill and Sliabh-Rua. Bishopstown won all their group games with great performances all round, especially from the younger girls, who just got stuck in. Scores on the day came from Laura O'Neill, Saoirse O'Sullivan, Grainne Houllihan and Caoimhe Dineen. Bishopstown qualified for the final against Millstreet, but after the long day, tiredness had set into the girls and things did not run for them. Millstreet's goalie kept us out on several occasions but we lost out narrowly to a physically stronger team. Again well done to the girls for the great performances they put in only to narrowly lose out on a County Title. A special thanks to the County Board organizers of the tournament for the great day they put together. |
