The senior team got their championship campaign off to a great start with a super hard-fought win over Aghabollogue at Ballincollig. The first half saw some great play, especially up-front, with great points from Ciara Healy and Maeve Scannell. Then Ciara Healy drove a free all the way to the net, to put Bishopstown firmly into the driving seat coming up to half-time. The half-time score was 1-9 to 1-3 and Bishopstown were well on top. Aghabollogue came out a different team though, and put up a serious challenge in the second half. They ran at the Bishopstown defence, but they held firm, with some great tackling, hooking and blocking. Orla Crowley made a crucial block-down as Aghabollogue looked to be through on goal, with only 3 points in it at the time. Points from Miriam Crowley, Ciara Healy and a goal from Mairin Egan closed out the game and it finished 2-13 to 2-7 in favour of Bishopstown. Next up are Eire Og in August. | Bishopstown got off to a great start, when after 4 minutes, Ciara Healy blasted a goal to the back of the Eire Og net. Winning more ball from play however, Eire Og scored the next four points in a row. Ciara Healy pointed another free, but Eire Og scored three more from play to make it 1-1 to 0-7. Maeve Scannell pointed for Bishopstown, and Ciara Healy pointed two more frees to level it, at 1-4 to 0-7. At the stroke of half time, Eire Og got through for a goal, leaving the half-time score at 1-4 to 1-7. On the resumption, Eire Og pointed again after which Miriam Crowley made a great run through on goal and her strike skimmed over the bar. It was now Eire Og 1-8 , Bishopstown 1-5 and it was still game on. Eire Og took over from there however, scoring 2-2, with Bishopstown only managing 3 more pointed frees. So the final score ended Eire Og 3-10, Bishopstown 1-8. Next game is against Ballincollig on Aug 26th. |
With the game changed to CIT due to bad weather, the match was never going to be a classic. Ballincollig turned out to be fast and skillful opposition, but luckily Jean O Sullivan in goal was inspired on the night, bringing of save after save. The defence also did well, but Bishopstown could make no headway up front. At half time it was Ballincollig 1-8 to Bishopstown's 0-5, with all of our scores coming from Ciara Healy frees. Despite playing well after half-time Ballincollig added on the points, to put the game out of reach. It ended 2-12 to 0-6 with Orla Crowley, Brid Sheehan, Eileen Foyle, and Jo-Anne Browne shining as well as Jean in goal. No game now till the end of September. |
Ciara Healy got the first score of the game from a free, but Bishopstown didnt lead anymore in the first half as Valleys took over. Maeve Scannell and Jo-Anne Browne chipped in with a point each from play and Ciara added 2 more frees, to make it Btown 0-5, Valleys 1-8 at half-time. With a much improved performance in the second half Bishopstown gradually caught up with Valleys. Miriam Crowley was to lead the way with a super performance from mid-field. With a point from mid-field just after half-time and another from the side-line, Miriam really lead the charge.Ciara Healy added 2 more points from play and then Miriam goaled from an-stoppable shot, after splitting the defence.Aine Donegan added another point and then the ref awarded Bishopstown a penalty. Ciara Healy's shot was well saved but Rhian Nunan was on hand to bury the rebound. With a point between the sides, Ciara Healy stood up to a 45m free way out on the side line and duly popped it over. But luck was not on our side. The ref awarded Valleys a 45, after a great save by Catherine Fogarty and Lucy Hawkes put it over the bar, to deny Bishopstown a share of the spoils. |
